I am in such shock right now that I really can't comprehend what is going on. When the guy that was going to pump out the basement came to the house, my husband said that there was 3 feet of water in the basement. It was to the top of the stairs (there are 4 steps up to the garage/family room level.
When my husband told me what it was going to cost, I was speechless. He is going to charge us $2,000! Plus we will have to purchase a new sump pump. I'm sick to my stomach and angry. This could have been avoided.
I have nothing left to say.

No. Water damage is not covered because of a flood we had back about 10 years ago. Many of the insurance companies backed off from coverage. We got 12 inches of rain over a 2-day period. Besides that, we just signed up with an insurance company that covers vacant houses. I'm afraid they would cancel. It was $1,600 per year to get that special coverage. Our old insurance company cancelled us because the house was vacant. We are stuck.

@hardtimes1958 That's terrible. We wanted to move to the Keys.

We still have to have the house emptied out and the ceiling fixed in two rooms and the wall in another room. My husband is the hold-up. I'm tired of paying taxes and utilities and maintenance costs.

The terrible thing about emergency repairs is that you usually don’t have time to “shop around” and compare prices. If you did that in this situation, you might have water up to the roof by the time you got a decent estimate.
I’m so, so sorry you’re enduring this. I decided to finance my tub instead of cleaning out my savings account for this reason: when it rains, it pours.

Yes, it does. I was upset enough that I had to spend $ to replace my computer...which is running fine now.

At this point, you just want to blow up the place.
