I’m once again reading another book for review, I’m not that far into this one, but even just a little ways in I can tell. In 1921 Francoise Frenkel a Jewish woman from Poland opens the first French bookshop in Berlin, the fulfillment of a long time dream. The La Maison du Livre it becomes a a haven for intellectual exchange as Nazi ideology begins to poison the culturally rich city. In 1935, the scene continues to darken. On the night of Kristallnacht her dreams are destroyed, despite the fact The La Maison du Livre miraculously survived Kristallnacht but Francoise must flee to Paris in fear of her life. I haven’t gotten so far in this yet, but if the first few chapters are any indication this book will definitely be receiving a favorable review!
