Ivar the Red Bellied Woodpecker

Suppose to be raining all day today. It started last night. And now overcast and clouds. Too cold to be out in the screen room with coffee and cats. But I was surprised with a new bird at the deck feeder. Ivar the red bellied woodpecker. You would think with that red head, he would be called a red headed woodpecker. But nope, somebody had the idea of confusing us. I named him Ivar. He has been coming to the feeder a few years now. I assume it is the same one. If you watch the show, Vikings, you will understand the name Ivar (the Boneless). He sort of slides around to the feeder from the deck fence. A very cool bird. I also see him pecking own my pine trees. I will get out with peanut butter later to spread on the trees for him. I was snapping lots of pics when I saw him at the feeder. First time this year I have seen him. So cool to see the birds enjoying the seeds. No matter the weather they have to eat. The funny thing is he is about half the size of the blue jays, but he runs them off. Five at a time, he ran them off and sat in the middle of the feeder eating the sunflower seeds. So cool to watch nature and the birds. This photo shows Ivar's mouth open, he was fussing at the blue jay, and he finally left. Yep, I am the crazy bird lady.
