National Cupcake Day
Cat Herders' Day
1939 - Gone With the Wind premieres.
2001 - The Leaning Tower of Pisa reopens after 11 years and $27 million to stabilize it.
1933 - Tim Conway was born. He was an American actor, comedian, screenwriter and director. Conway appeared in more than 20 television shows, television series and movies between 1966-2012. He is perhaps best remembered for his appearances on the Carol Burnett Show between 1975-78. He won 6 Primetime Emmy Awards. He passed away this year on May 14.
1942 - Dave Clark was born. He is an English drummer, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. He was the leader, drummer and manager of the Dave Clark Five in the 1960s. I remember when the DCF followed the Beatles to America in 1964 during the British Invasion. There was a definite competition between Beatles' and DCF fans. The DCF was said to be the "most serious threat" to the Beatles. Their biggest hit was "Glad All Over" (see below). The band broke up in 1970; and on the 50th anniversary of their founding (2008), the Dave Clark Five were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
