"The Meg" is a science fiction action film that was released in 2018. The screenplay was written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber and is loosely based on the 1997 book, "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror" by Steve Allen. The movie was met with mixed reviews: "neither good enough nor bad enough" to be fun; however, it was a success at the box office with box office receipts of $530.2 million and a budget of $130-178 million. Jason Statham - Jonas Taylor Li Bingbing - Suyin Rainn Wilson - Jack Morris Cliff Curtis - Mac Ruby Rose - Jaxx Herd Winston Chao - Dr. Minway Zhang Page Kennedy - DJ Jessica McNamee - Lori Olafur Darri Olafsson - The Wall Robert Taylor - Dr. Heller Shuya Sophia Cai - Meiying Masi Oka - Toshi The movie opens with Jonas Taylor, a professional deep-sea rescue diver, trying to rescue a group of scientists from a wrecked nuclear submarine. Something starts attacking the sub violently. Taylor makes the decision to abandon the sub with two men still on board. Moments later the sub explodes. Taylor is not believed when he speaks of a giant shark. 5 years later - Mana One is a $1.3 billion underwater research facility off the coast of China. It is operated by a group of scientists headed by Dr. Minway Zhang and Jack Morris, an egotistical billionaire who has financed the facility. Dr. Zhang and his daughter Suyin, an oceanographer, are supervising a mission to explore a deeper portion of the Mariana Trench (below 36,000 feet) concealed by a 34 degree Fahrenheit layer of hydrogen sulfide. The submersible is piloted by Lori, Taylor's ex-wife, Toshi and The Wall. They are successful in dropping below the layer of hydrogen sulfide and find a whole new world of flora and fauna. Just then a large creature collides with the sub. Right before they lose contact with Mana One, Lori says, "Jonas was right". If you want to see how this all plays out, you'll have to watch the movie. A "Jaws" this isn't. I've said this before...It's not the best movie I've seen; and it's not the worst movie I've seen. If you do watch it, look at the credits at the end. They seem to go on forever. I can see why this was such an expensive movie to make. So, I give you my lukewarm recommendation for this film. It's good for a Friday night with some popcorn. This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Pixabay
