A now-former friend said that we should deport all immigrants, migrants, and refugees to a desert island. This former friend of mine does not like immigrants, migrants etc.
Of course I disagreed with this... The thing is when I was a child I was very sick and had a team of doctors most of whom were from other countries. Those doctors are the reason I am still alive today. Those doctors negotiated with my parents a payment plan so that I could get the care I needed even though they did not have much money.
Also if we did send everyone back would it not effectively cripple the country?
In this debate, he got angry with me and told me to block him because clearly I did not agree with him and will never see the right way. I did not block him and actually told him that I respected his opinion on the matter.
Let's see what people have to say:
Do you agree with my now former friend? why/why not?
Would a ban on immigration cripple Australia? why/why not?
would you have blocked him? why/why not?

If you aren't a native australian then you're an immigrant or a relative of an immigrant...just the same as in the US.
In the UK it's a little different as we are a much older country.
Throwing out migrants/immigrant in their entirety is stupid.
Deporting illegal immigrants and stopping unregulated economic migration is a sensible thing to do.
I do not agree with free movement of people throughout the EU which is one of the reasons I support leaving the EU.
I'm looking forward to the new UK government getting us out of the EU asap and bringing in a sensible immigration policy possibly along the lines of the australian points based system.

@Fa_Maverick he just sounds stupid in my opinion.
I've noticed many people who have this "get immigrants out" mentality are often very angry at their own situation and are looking for people to blame because they aren't able to look at themselves and maybe realise their situation is mainly of their own making.

@Fa_Maverick sounds like many people I've come across.
Blame others rather than look at yourself.

The thing is throughout our 'debate' he acknowledged that his family were indeed immigrants way back when.
Perhaps he was talking about his need to remove himself from the country in a confusing self contradicting full circle.

I don't think this is a wise.decision. what if he was an immigrant and wanted shelter.

@amitkokiladitya And then there would be a smoldering crater where Australia used to be because without allies we wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

his reply was simply that something like that would never happen to Australia. He would never be put to the mercy of another country. I believe that if they were sent to a desert island it would send a very bad message to those countries they are from and decimate our allies.

In my humble opinion, we must not do this. Just because they don't have a country, we cannot judge or condemn them. This is wrong. Is it their choice to wander desperately in quest of a place to call home? Who would want to live this life? They are just victims of the bigger 'system'.
About your friend, it all comes back to values. He has a serious problem. Please educate him to grow.

I think that your friend does not understand or forgot that once upon a time some ancestors of present day Australians were also migrants, some were even forced to stay there, in that " island. " Migration made it what it is today.
Even if I don't agree with your former friend's opinion I think he is entitled to his or her opinion but just leave it at that, a personal opinion.

@Fa_Maverick in any country or society there are always misguided elements , sad to say but your former friend "could" be one of them.
Aboriginals did not need any money, they were free to roam fish , gather fruits and hunt bountifully and in abundance, some aboriginals that time may also had an opinion of putting all the people who look different coming in to their territory in a secluded place, who knows.

@louievill He seems to be misguided but each to their own.
Yes I am aware they didn't if anything they traded with others. Sad how white people 'improved' them
