National Chocolate Covered Anything Day
Stupid Toy Day
1980 - Colonel Sanders passed away. He was born in 1890. He founded Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and acted as the company brand ambassador and symbol. He developed his secret recipe of spices and patented his way of cooking chicken in a pressure fryer. The first KFC franchise opened in 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1963 he trademarked the phrase, "It's finger licking good". Rapid expansion to more than 600 franchises in the United States and overseas became too much for Sanders; and he sold the operation in 1964 for $2 million ($16.2 million today). He retained control of franchises in Canada and became a salaried brand ambassador.

In particular, the story of Colonel Sanders is one of determination and inspriation to anyone who thinks its too late to have a success story, although I do think he undersold himself quite a bit not realizing the true value of what he had. Nonetheless, when he sold the business, it may have been one of things that really catapulted the business.
But his whole story is entirely fascinating.
