Our thoughts, our mind, and our soul. Are any of these the real us, or not?

What leads this guy to smoke?

I have heard it said that our mind is undisciplined, and largely runs free of us, whoever we are. Our mind is a tool that we have trouble controlling then, but who is this we, and why is our mind like this? Who gave us such a mind, or have we programmed it perhaps wrongly in this way ourselves, at some time, or other? The emptiness of life does not come from your mind, but from the shell of who you are outside of that mind. You are not owning your real self, your higher self, your soul then, for example, so you feel empty. The mind tries to fill this emptiness with continuous thoughts, but this never satisfies you, for thoughts lead nowhere, unless they have a leader. This is our soul, and we are the footman of our soul's, who both carries out its orders or ignores them, and so we can also sometimes act from our own authority. We do not see our soul as the boss, that it is, as it is really, the one in charge, in our lives. Our soul is more often just seen as a mere instigator of opinionative, intuitional, guidance, in the background to be listened to, or not. It is our own decision to decide to follow what it tells us to do, via gut feeling, or from the still small voice of our intuition. This decision is often made depending on our own mood or emotive position, or even from our thoughts, which we are presently following now, which are though, not leading you, when you do this. The thought is not the leader, but it can be used to lead you forwards past your obstacle, if you do not follow everyone one of them blindly, but allow your soul to help you to discriminate between those thoughts that are better followed, or those that are better just let go of. His thoughts, his emotions, his soul, or is he just being controlled by his body's addiction to nicotine?

Yes, unfortunately, it usually is, until someone learns to listen to their own inner voice, or soul speaking to them, which gives a whole new perspective on things then. Mind tries to win over matter, but it never can do so, unless it has something outside of matter, like its higher self, helping it to do this.

We've spent so many millenniums bowing to those who have taken control of our species, manipulated into adhering to false beliefs about ourselves, nature and the way things "should" be, our true selves have been repressed by something called EGO. Ego is man's only survival tool. Constructed out of fear. Why does a person start smoking in the first place? To look 'cool', fit in with his peers and a myriad of other stresses society lays on him. For your true self to shine you must drown ego with humility.

Thanks. That's very well stated. I agree that our ego must play a secondary role to our real self, and play the second fiddle, so to speak, instead of the lead role. Yes, perhaps only humility can allow it to do this. Ego should not be killed off altogether, but "drowned with humility", so it doesn't resurface, full of its own hot air again. I like how you put that.

I have a view that we are sparks from the same source of creation, creator. That makes us have intuition, inner knowing and the connection to our source. Then we are all connected to the physical world to an extent to put the inner knowing on the backstage. It pays to reflect often about what this life is about through our own experiences and that of others. We need to take care of the physical body while nourishing our minds not losing our connection to our soul which is the real deal. It boils down to a fine balancing act for us to feel comfortable within our skin while here - siva

Thanks, siva. That's a pretty good summing up of our life here, and how we should best live it here. God sits in his Heaven, and we sit where we are, not knowing if it is in Heaven, or Hell. We find this out the closer that we get to understanding our self in God, and the more that we move away from misunderstanding our self in our self.

@innertalks There is always the duality in creation and it is up to us to choose the fine balance between a materialistic and an altruistic lifestyle. Our lives should not be avoidance, self-denial, and guilt-filled. The spread is too tempting and we can nibble all to our heart's content! God is love and he will understand that we are after all human! siva

I hold the same views. I found that one of the most important questions that anyone can ask throughout their life is; "Why Me?" This is not a plea of victimhood as many believe it is. Eventually, in a moment of divine timing, the answer will come through clearly and the revelation will be; "Why NOT Me?"
