Was it right to throw them away?

Philippines

Dad sent a box a few days ago, only few were food. But one of the items i found a bunch of VHS tapes and two VHS+DVD player (110v). I tried it but it doesn't work on tv (which he also gave me). So, I got no choice to throw ALL of them to the garbage guy. I told him about the item, but later one of town officers complained about it. Sadly, they are all in good condition but it's consuming space and I can always renew my netflix. My room now is too small to fit all of those.

Just bring it to the junk shop, VHS tapes are 1 to 2 pesos per kg, depending on if you remove the cellophane lol, VHS player around 5-6 pesos per kg. And the crt TV if it's big is around P40.00 small is P20.00, not much but if you have no need for it and it takes up space then dispose of it properly and get a little cash

Hello @louievill I gave it to them so they have that small cash on their own, like you said, it's not much.

I am not a hoarder but I'd like to keep things like the VHS tapes. Yup, requires space but then, throwing them in the garbage is not the correct thing. These tapes are recyclable. Should have been given to the non-biodegradable section for proper recycling.

@Letranknight2015 The Japanese have tiny houses but they do love keeping the mementos. Studies show that the old things prevent dementia later on in life. That's probably what old stuff are for.

I gave them to the garbage collector and told them about the items that were inside @eileenleyva it's upt to them to use it. There are still advantages of my dad hoarding stuff but I'd never do what he does...someting things just had to go. They're the ones that's going to do the recycling too.

You could sell them or give them to someone less fortunate, but thank your dad for his kindly thoughts of you.

@Letranknight2015 Some of those tapes could be home movies and have a sentimental value.

I don't have time to keep it and it's just junk to me @Janet357 and it's too late because I've already thrown it.

You don’t have a way to donate things there? No thrift stores?

@Letranknight2015 that's unfortunate. I hate sending things to the landfill.

Yes managing space becomes very tough at times. So we can't keep storing everything. But you could have checked twice and even with your dad before throwing them away.

If my Aunts weren't here I would have tried to experiment on it until I figured out @isweartokira But there was just too much space. Well, i hope they tried to donate it.
