My Best Friend's Wedding" is a romantic-comedy that was released in 1997. The movie received generally positive reviews; and it was a global box-office hit with a budget of $38 million and box office receipts of $299.3 million. CAST Julia Roberts - Julianne Potter Dermot Mulroney - Michael O'Neal Cameron Diaz - Kimberly "Kimmy" Wallace Rupert Everett - George Downes Philip Bosco - Walter Wallace M. Emmet Walsh - Joe O'Neal Rachel Griffiths - Samantha Newhouse Carrie Preston - Mandy Newhouse Susan Sullivan - Isabelle Wallace Christopher Masterson - Scotty O'Neal Julianne and Michael dated in college until Julianne dropped him; and they became best friends. They made a pact that if they were still single at the age of 28, they would marry each other. Now they're almost 28; and Michael is a freelance sports writer and Julianne is a well-known food critic. Julianne gets a call from Chicago. Michael is getting married in three days to a junior at the University of Chicago whose father owns the White Sox and a cable TV empire; and Michael wants her to be there to support him. Julianne knows what she has to do. She has to break them up because she realizes that she's in love with Michael. Julianne travels to Chicago and meets Kimmy, Michael's fiancee. She realizes that they're perfect for each other; but that does not dissuade her. Kimmy throws her a curve ball by asking her to be her maid of honor. Now she must be the dutiful maid of honor and break them up. If you want to find out how the story ends, you will have to watch the movie. I'm a Julia Roberts fan; so I like just about any movie that she's in; but she does do a good job in this one. Cameron Diaz plays the perfect fiancee convincingly; and Mulroney and Everett round out the well-chosen cast. I put my stamp of approval on "My Best Friend's Wedding". This movie is rated PG-13.
