Still to Visit: Nevada

Hang in there, we’re in the home stretch!! With lovely, unseasonably warm weather this week the only way we’ll get a white Christmas is to go get a lot of paint at Home Depot.
My new year’s resolution is to get at least one of these eleven states I haven’t visited yet out of the way. And here’s another one of those states.
Haven’t visited: Nevada
Wanna bet I’ll get there?
The last thing that appeals to me is Las Vegas. Fortunately, the “first” thing a lot of people think of when they think of Nevada is easily avoidable, and plenty of great things await outside of Sin City.
Part of Death Valley is in Nevada. That deceptively flat area is actually, at its lowest point, 282 feet below sea level. The National Park’s website says that only one person actually died in the valley when the pioneers went through, but they all thought they were going to. Death Valley has the reputation of being not only the lowest place in the US, but also the hottest. The local weather radio has a daily “temperature extremes” report, and the winner in the “hottest place” category is usually Death Valley.
There’s lots of desert, lots of mountains, and maybe I’ll find the Ponderosa Ranch, home of the Cartwrights!
I also hear that’s a big damn dam there.....
I can’t miss Hoover Dam. No way. It’s one of the biggest dam tourist attractions in the country (see what I did there?).
Nevada is more than Las Vegas, and I intend to see that for myself soon!
Nevada
36th state

I love the vloggers’ takes on places instead of the “official tourism videos,” so here’s a couple in Nevada:

Lake Tahoe. Reno. Great Basin National Park. Bad news: the Liberace museum is no more alas. But you can go to the Mob Museum.

I was to Las Vegas in the 70s--checked that off my list!
Crazy but I have been to 49 States--why I never got to North Dakota is still a mystery as I drove around all the States (well took a plane to Hawaii!) even went to South Dakota!!

You should definitely take the dam tour of the dam. You also should see Vegas once. It's definitely an experience.

Many sights to see for non-fans of "Casino." I would probably avoid the desert. The ghost of Joe Pesci might reach out of that hole and grab ya...
