The charities in the Portland Oregon region will miss the services of a former World War II veteran named Al Quartrocchi who is retiring from his hobby of making toys out of wood in his garage to give them away to charities in the area during the Christmas holidays.
Quartocchi who is 98 years of age, was a former carpenter who used his skills of working with wood to make around 500 to 600 wooden toys in his spare time which has earned him the admiration of his community of making needy children happy during the holiday season until he decided that due to his health problems, he had to step down from his wood making toys profession.
Quartocchi remembers that since he lived during the Great Depression era, his mom could not buy him a toy for Christmas.
It is nice to see that Quarttrocchi was able to use his carpenter skills to make the lives of the children in Portland very happy during the Christmas season.

He has turned his sad experience into something that will bring joy. He has a good purpose in life that's why he lived such a long life.
