Still to Visit: South Dakota

Yeah, I know. Warm weather in December usually means we’re gonna pay for it somehow (either with severe weather [we have had tornado warnings on New Year’s Day] or a blizzard) down the road. But that day isn’t today. It’s still unseasonably warm (high 50s), so I’m going to enjoy it! It’s not the right time of the year to travel (unless you’re going someplace perpetually warm), so I’ll contemplate where to go next. How about one of the eleven states I haven’t visited yet? Like this one!
Haven’t visited: South Dakota
I hear they have some badlands there. Yep, the Badlands National Park is in South Dakota. There’s also the “northern Stone Mountain.”
(Truth be told, Gutzon Borglum, who was the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, also worked on Stone Mountain in Georgia, but his contributions never surfaced because of disagreements with the financial backers.)
There’s yet more Lewis and Clark Trail to see (dang, those guys went more places than Hank Snow!
), and the wide Missouri River (how strange to have the Missouri River in South Dakota, huh?).
And there’s DeSmet. There you’ll find a number of sites surrounding the life of Little House on the Prairie author Laura Ingalls Wilder.
I hear South Dakota calling me to come visit!
South Dakota
38th/39th state (with North Dakota)

We are going to show you our top 5 favorite places to visit along the 1-90 in South Dakota. A lot of people think I-90 on South Dakota is a boring drive. But...

You haven't been there either? You have got some miles to cover and cassette tape sto wear out.
Wind Caves. Deadwood. Sioux Falls with Falls Park which contains you know what. Custer State Park. Prove you were born to be wild at Sturgis.

Can’t go to Sturgis. Don’t have any tattoos.

So many states...so little time. You could probably spend a month touring each state to see everything.

I know! All the time I’ve spent in Columbus, Indiana and just recently found that park with the covered bridge!

Concerts and the Navy will do that to you. My western states were accomplished when I had to have my car shipped to Hawaii from Long Beach, California.
