On the Sidewalks of New York

Today I saw photos that were taken by well-known photographers of people and events from all over the U.S. The one photo that caught my attention was a whole box of chocolates in a Valentine's heart on a New York sidewalk being pecked at by pigeons. I can tell you from my experience finding a whole Valentine chocolate box on the sidewalk is a completely new phenomenon. I have found pennies, some larger monetary pieces, and the occasional buck on the sidewalk. The streets of New York are certainly not paved in gold as they have been made out to be and if you are lucky you’ll find yourself alive and well tripping the light fantastic on the sidewalks of New York. I gazed at the photos and thought about the many scenarios that brought that box of chocolate to that spot on the sidewalk. I will write down some of my thoughts and if you like please tell me what you think in the comments. • Two lovers have a very bad spat right on Valentine’s. They split up right then and there and the one carrying the box just dropped it on the sidewalk. They went their separate ways. • There are more sinners than saints in New York City a sad but true fact as in any very large city. One lover knifed or gunned down the other and all that remained when the smoke cleared was the insignificant Valentine. • A rich man was bringing the box of chocolates to his wife and suddenly he got attacked. He was dragged into a waiting van and the box dropped and remained where it fell. Those are just some thoughts. Then the song that Nat King Cole sang “On the Sidewalks of New York’ came into my mind. One last curious thing is that I know my hometown and even though I am a person who would never pick up a box of chocolates from the sidewalk I know many who would but no one had. There is also the question about the neighborhood where it happened because something like this would be a real treasure for a homeless person. I guess the pigeons just got lucky.

I'll go with the first most logical scenario. Your other violent scenario's made me think of this movie...

The lover's spat is what came to my mind when I heard about the box of chocolates.

sad scenes seen on the sidewalks of New York. I suddenly try to remember scenes like this on my sidewalks here, but mayne because of so many stuff I saw, nothing dwells in my head for me to remember

All I know is I would NEVER throw away a box of chocolates--heart or square box!! But then with the price of chocolates today I couldn't afford a box!! LOL

I like the lover's spat scenario. Yes, the pigeons were lucky.
