Did you know that Mr. Potato Head was the first toy to be advertised on TV? The original toy did not include a plastic potato to build upon the way it does in today's kit. It had all the body parts and accessories included for you to make a potato person but you supplied a real potato to build the potato person. He made his first appearance on television on April 30, 1952, becoming the first toy to be advertised on television. Within the first year of advertising him on television this amazing little toy made a profit of over one million dollars. Before long it was decided that Mr. Potato head needed a wife so in 1953 Mrs. Potato Head appeared. Shortly after that they were joined by their children, Yam and Spud, and their friends Kate the Carrot, Pete the Pepper, Oscar the Orange, and Cookie Cucumber. When I was a child I loved playing with Mr. Potato Head and his wife. Unfortunately, I don't remember ever hearing about the children or their friends. Does anyone out there remember them?

I only recently became aware of Mr Potatohead, I didn't know about it when I was a kid not to mention mom probably would never have given that to me because it required using food to make a toy.

By that time I was probably too old to care about a toy like that @HazySue

I didn’t know any of that! I must have led a neglected childhood.

It was fun to use your imagination and make Mr Potato Head into different type of men.

I guess that's true. They did seem to make all the good toys years and years and years ago.
