poem 2020 vision

Like Canute trying to hold the tide
I struggle to stop the time
But the hours press on
All but one hour and twenty gone
I fear twenty-twenty will be here
The end is nigh and near
For poor old twenty nineteen
As Old Father Time sweeps the hour glass clean
Flips it over and starts again
The slow trickle 365 day pain
Oh, 366, as this one's a leap year
My efforts to hold fast have failed I fear
So happy hogmany, and Auld Lang's Sine
Drink some beer and quaff some wine
We might as well enjoy the future we can't evade
Resolutions we all break will just have to be made
The future is coming, the dam has burst asunder
All that happened yesteryear sinks under
The shock of the new
We must endure so happy new year to you and you and you
