"The Out-of-Towners" is a comedy that was released in 1999. It's a remake of the 1970 movie by the same name with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis. It was critically and commercially a disappointment with $28 million in box office receipts against a $75 million budget. CAST Steve Martin - Henry Clark Goldie Hawn - Nancy Clark Mark McKinney - Greg Oliver Hudson - Alan Clark John Cleese - Mr. Mersault Henry and Nancy Clark live in a quiet town in Ohio. They've been married for 27 years; and their last child has left home. Their daughter moved to New York; and their son is studying abroad. Nancy is now suffering from empty nest syndrome. Nancy doesn't know it; but Henry has lost his job due to corporate downsizing and has an interview in New York. Nancy sneaks on the plane with him. Why sneak on the plane? Why not just make arrangements to go with him? Anyway, they start on a disastrous series of misadventures. The plane is rerouted to Boston; and their luggage is lost. From this point on it's one bad situation after another. If you want to find out what happens, you'll have to watch the movie. There were missed opportunities in this movie for humor. One situation just turned out to be embarrassing instead of funny. Usually I will tell you if I feel that this is a movie that you can watch again and again; but this isn't one of them. Don't waste your money. I don't give this movie my recommendation. Watch the 1970 version...it's better. This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Pixabay

Having seen the original, I had no desire to see some tepid remake even if I like Goldie.

I had high hopes with Steve Martin; but it was a disappointment.
