Blue Jay Eating Peanuts

The deck feeder stays full of sunflower seeds and whole peanuts during the winter. The blue jays love the peanuts. You can see in this photo I snapped, he has a peanut in his mouth. And he made room for two! Yes they can put two whole peanuts in their mouth at one time. Then they fly out in the yard and eat them or either hide them for later. Very cool to watch these beautiful birds. Ivar, the woodpecker comes by every now and then and spoils the party. But they all eventually come back. This is my entertainment from the window and screen room every day.

During the fall, squirrels take food from our neighbor's feeder and bury it in our front yard! lol What a beautiful shot, a nice one Carol:)

'n what great 'ntertainment such'd be! superb shot 'f mr. blue jay, don't reckon i've seen the ones here do that with 2 nuts? 've seen (failed to capture, dang 't) 'em give one to their mate 'n then go fetch 'nother fer 'mselves. here 'tis the curve billed thrasher that runs off the jays. i consider such payback fer all the heck the jays gave the squirrel when he 'twas still here. ran that poor fella ragged, 'twixt them'n those ferals. i still wonder what happened to the lil fella. my hopes're he 'scaped to someplace much quieter...

What a great shot you captured of that blue jay! So they prefer the peanuts over the sunflower seeds?

Yes they do, when the peanuts are gone they start on the seeds. The peanuts have more food, and they can hide them. I guess that is the reason. Please some make homemade suet and add peanut butter. They like the peanut taste.
