In England, I don't know about traditions but a lot of people have leftovers from Christmas or make a turkey curry - or other thing to use up any food that has not been used. I imagine that this is because of shops not being open for a while so, although most places are now open during the Christmas period, people still continue with habits like buying extra food.
This year and last year, we went to my in-laws for food. They put out a spread which includes egg sandwiches, spring rolls, chicken nuggets, crisps, cakes, and whatever else they happen to have.
I love Japanese food but I haven't heard of osechi ryori. I would gladly try it. I'd love to visit Japan - it's on my 'bucket list' and, hopefully, I'll be able to do that in the next five years.
