Have you ever said anything which hurt someone's feelings without meaning to? Many people simply don't think before they open their mouths and give an opinion or advice to someone. I have had many years practice in avoiding pitfalls such as this but even so I get it wrong at times and can occasionally be found trying to extract my foot from my mouth without anyone noticing! So why say something without considering the possible consequences or hurt feelings of what you say? You wouldn't jump over a wall without looking first, would you? My new motto is 'Think Twice - Say Once'!

I try to be conscious of other’s feelings. However, some people can’t take a joke, witty, or wry comment. On here, it’s strange, because you can’t experience the inflections of words, and some people are easily offended.

Yes, I know! Without the face-to-face interaction it's difficult to know exactly how another person is feeling. The emojis which myLot provide do help a little there and I do tend to use them quite often to reinforce a point.

@ScotMac Exactly! I’m an emoji user, too, but some people lack personality or whatever it is to make them understand. I avoid them like the plague now.

Our neighbour used to say of her husband that he only opened his mouth to change feet.

I am sure I have. But I say what I am thinking. If they dont like it that is their problem not mine. If the other person can have an opinion then I can too.

I have, in the past, opened mouth and inserted foot. I try harder these days not to do that.
