The Lemon Tree is Loaded

Do you like lemons? My daughter has this lemon tree in the photo at her house. It is a good producer of lemons and I usually get all I want when this thing goes into production. They used to have 3 or 4 but the flood in 2016 killed all of them but this one tree. I just got my second bag of lemons this season. I'm going to have to juice this second batch and freeze it in an ice cube tray. Then I will dump and store them in a gallon size Ziploc bag. That way I will have lemon juice all summer for cold tea. I have been enjoying eating them. They are a nice blend of sweet and sour. I'm supposed to eat sour candy to stimulate my saliva glands. I've had surgery once for this and don't want to do it again. Eating candy is fine and dandy but also has those calories that lead to weight gain. I also have medication for this that used to be covered 100% by my insurance. When I got a new prescription it was not covered at all and over $40. I'll take a fresh lemon any day over taking medicine or surgery! She is going to try to root me a tree this Spring. I hope she is successful! Do you like to eat lemons? Do you put salt on them or eat them just as they are? I do both with these, depending on my mood. Photo Credit: Ashley Gros, used with permission

i couldn't eat lemons just as they are - I cringe at the thought of that. I just like lemon juice on fish and also pancakes.

I've never tried it on pancakes. Do you also put syrup on the pancakes? Oh these are not sour sour, just a bit tart. Some are even sweet!

@kareng I don't use syrup with the lemon juice, just a sprinkling of sugar.

Lots of households here have a lemon tree. When they're fruiting, people can't get rid of them but out of season they are quite expensive.

My mother used to eat sour things. I don't care to eat lemons. It's nice that your daughter supplies you with lemons. Where does your daughter live that she can grow lemons???

She lives in west baton rouge parish. Citrus trees grow pretty well here. I'll have to take a picture of our satsuma tree in Louisiana. It's huge. A lot of them were killed when it flooded in 2016, but mine survived. Now the tangerine tree is producing an odd fruit. I don't know if it cross pollinated or what. We used to get tangerines off it though, so this is a bit weird after so many years. This fruit is very sour and is now shaped different.

Lemon tree very pretty. Would love to have a lemon tree. Lemons are kind of pricey in the grocery stores. That's why I usually buy limes.

So many lemons! I don't mind a lemon, I don't go after them but if the option is there I would. My neighbors have this tree that grows giant lemons and the people who lived there before used to give some to us. The people that live there ow, I don't even know if they pluck them or not.
