The Queen gave her blessing

I don't know much about it, to be fair. I haven't been keeping up with it. (I know, you all are so surprised, right? I said I liked the UK not their royals!) Anyway, just saw a headline that basically said that the Queen let ol' Harry and Meghan step back from their more senior royal duties. I guess they'll still spend time between Canada and the UK. Wonder how long it'll be before they come crawling back? No, I guess I shouldn't think that way. I mean, I wish them all the best and I can't say I wouldn't want to be away from the limelight and all the responsibilities that entails, but come on, they had a good income BEFORE they threw this snit.... I digress... What's everyone else's take on this?

I'm thinking even with not working another day in their lives.....3 million should last a long while. I've not followed the royal family that closely. I wish the media would just let them be.

It would be nice if the media would let them be, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. They'll hound them for a bit until another story comes along.

I'm surprised that a few days ago I read about a wax museum decided to not include their wax figures with the rest of royal family.

@JESSY3236 I guess everyone has their biases and their ignorance though.

That's kind of silly, isn't it? They are still part of the royal family, even if they want to step back from the royal duties.

It might surprise some here, but I am anti monarchist. My husband doesn't mind the royals, but I do.

May I ask why you are anti-monarch? I've never thought much about it to be honest. I know monarchies have a rich, and somewhat deadly history.

I think that one of the issues is that Harry appears to have changed and his relationship with William and Kate appears to have changed, too. Harry and Meghan won't last. She's manipulative and narcissistic, far worse than Diana, although she was a product of her environment and was young a naïve when she married. Meghan doesn't have that excuse; she knew exactly what she was walking into. Race doesn't come into it as much as maybe the American media is portraying; they simply married too quickly and they will suffer for this. My understanding is that they'll only lose 5% of their income. The rest comes from Charles and his estate anyway. But I'm not that sure. Also, she's an actress. Seemingly a pretty good one. ;)

I'll admit, I haven't watched a lot of coverage over this, but what I have seen had the anchors talking a lot about racism and of cultural differences. If Meghan does try to cut ties with royal family, I just don't see Harry standing for it.

I think it will be great for Meghan and Harry to live where they want.

I hope it will be good for them, and not something that Harry regrets doing. It's not just that they'll be living somewhere different, but they will no longer be receiving income from the taxpayers of the UK, and will be required to pay what they've received together.

@Moon24 It won't be easy for them, though. The press will still bother them for awhile, I think.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I know. I think if they want to live like other people not like Royals it is ok.

I don’t keep up on it but I would have to say let them do what makes them happy.

Yeah, I mean it's not like it's impacting anyone if they do their own thing. Harry is farther down the line of succession anyway.

My take on this is that Harry will rue the day he ever followed that witch Meghan.

I do wonder if he'll regret it. Some seem to believe that she's pulling the string.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Surely not she wanted to be famous and now she is. May be Harry regrets, if not yet, he will.

@LadyDuck It seems I need to read up more on what is going on with them. I know so very little. I do know that Harry and William are not really talking to one another. I wonder if William told Harry that Meghan was only using him. She seemed to get pregnant rather quickly.

I think it's good that they do, but I think the news needs to stop covering it now.

@LindaOHio I am sure they do as well. I also am not being fair because I honestly don't know much about Meghan. Perhaps she has entrepreneurial dreams.

Some said it's fake news or maybe they want only to cover up. Go where your heart is, that's how I describe the situation.

Right? We can't always trust the media anyway, they want to sensationalize things.

@florelway Yes, they just want to get views and rating, stir the feelings of people, just to make a story.
