Is our house haunted?

I'm beginning to think it is! The odd weird incident has occurred over the last few years but, over the last few weeks, strange happenings have been going on in our house. Cushions and newspapers have been found lying on the floor - and the last time they were seen they were firmly in place where they should be. We have smelled things like sausages frying, bacon cooking and apple pie in the oven when none such had been prepared in our house for several days. Saturday night was especially disturbing. We had friends round for dinner and just as we all sat down at the table a loud crash was heard in the hallway - a vacuum cleaner had mysterious jumped off its hook and out of its cupboard not only landing on the hall floor but opening the cupboard door on the way! Our friends were quite freaked out about it since we had told them about the strange happenings and they didn't believe us. I think they believe us now!

Open the windows and doors, burn some sage, and ask it to move on, it seems like if it actually is a spirit that it might be getting irritated especially around if there is company. Best to just try and clear it out.

@ScotMac We have a spirit in my house and he is a little trickster. He isn't connected to the house, but is just a ghost that connected himself to my mom and now he just roams in our house tapping on walls, sitting on our bed, sometimes stealing things. If it does get to the case where things are breaks then it is best to clear them out. They need to move on anyway.

Oh that is creepy that those things happening in your house. Is your house an old house? I suspect you have a naughty ghost that like to thrash your home.

It's about 40-years-old and we are the only ones ever to live in it

I'm with Jimmy Carr on this one. There's an easy way to tell if your house is haunted. It isn't! Grow up!

@ScotMac I definitely fall firmly into the rational, possibly as yet unknown, explanation for everything camp.

I never used to believe in things like this but once you experience it for yourself you think twice before dismissing it

That is very strange indeed. I gather it's an older house? I might be getting a bit freaked out too.

@ScotMac Gosh, that makes it even more scary. Did you have a mini earthquake which might account for the vacuum cleaner?

It's not particularly old and we are the only ones who have lived in it. Maybe it's built on an old Indian graveyard

@JudyEv Earthquakes don't really happen in Scotland except for very minor ones. I am 66 years old and have never experienced one in Scotland

@ScotMac Did someone else live in your place before you moved there? Maybe they heard or even saw a ghost running around at night. Did they run out the door screaming?

This all sounds very disturbing. Do you know anything about the history of your house, like did something bad happen there?

No. We have been in this house since it was built and nothing nasty has happened here
