Kite flying to build up Vitamin D...

In my last post, I mentioned about the first harvest festival of the year in India. It's celebrated for three days across the country and has different names in different parts of the country.
Now there are few traditions and food associated with this festival. I have already mentioned about the delicacies that are made from fresh harvest in my last post.
Now there is tradition of kite flying during the festival. Some kite flying festivals also go on in different parts of the country. At some places there are outdoor activities with cattles like bull fighting or bullock cart racing that take place.
Now my grandfather told me that there is a scientific logic behind this tradition of outdoor activities. He told that the Vitamin D that body makes over three days can be stored over for an year. And the best and safest sunlight to make that Vitamin D is when winter is about to end and spring is to begin. It's that time in our country. Spring is knocking on door and will be here in a week time.
Children and adults are encouraged to stay outdoors with these outdoor activities and kite flying. They build up their Vitamin D store. And all the delicacies made with sesame seed are there for your calcium store and bone health.
So this tradition of kite flying has a scientific logic. Even ancient cultures were scientific.
My daughters are out with my husband and nephew flying kites on our terrace
. I was with them for some time.
Here I put picture of beautiful bright kites. I made them with my students over a period of few days. It was part of our art activity for the festival. We celebrated the festival at school yesterday. These kites decorated the venue of celebration. Teachers, non teaching staff and children came out to fly kites in later half of the day.

@arunima25 these kites made me to recall those childhood memories where myself, my brother and grandmother made kites by ourselves and enjoyed a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good day:)

@Teekaaa That must be fun. In our childhood, we made so many things ourselves. And we had so many things to keep us occupied without any gadget.

Even I was happy with the kites. Children enjoyed making them and they came out well. I just thought of sharing some ancient wisdom in our culture.

It was a fun thing to do. We were so good with it. Now I felt being out of practice. My nephew and daughters were terrible at the game. Husband was quite good and helped them.

Good that you are conscious about it. This is the best time of year to store it. Soon sun will be too hot and rays will do more harm than good.
