Another scam email.

United Kingdom

I was talking to a lady I know this morning and she told me how her husband had come very close to being scammed online. He was reading his emails when he saw one that had come from their home telephone provider. The message said that the company had tried to process this months direct debit payment but they were unable to do it ,so could he set up another direct debit payment plan. He was just about to do so when he told her about it and she remembered that the phone bill was paid through an account in her name. The genuine phone people would not have had his name or his email address , so this was definitely a scam.

@DianneN , so many victims of scams those not so exposed to technology and those who don't have sense to evaluate fraudulent activities.

I once entered a competition with a well known drinks company. A few days later I got an email saying I had won a million pounds in that competition. I was so close to passing on my details when I realized that the whole thing was a scam.

We've had a couple of email scams too. They sound very legitimate sometimes. You really have to be on your guard.

It is disturbing when they pretend to be legitimate companies, you can see how easily some people can be scammed.

When money is involved, we have to triple check (not just double check) and if possible, consult a person to help you check it.

Yes, it is always best to double check when money is concerned.

Yikes, that's a pretty convincing one. Good thing he decided to mention that to her before signing up for a payment plan. That can be such a hassle to fix when they get hold of that information!

If it did happen then they would have needed to notify people , and maybe even close their accounts very quickly.
