I don't mean to offend but

when the kids were little one of the Twins used to say that. We finally sat him down and said, you realize, you are offending after you say that phrase right. He said "Oh, I thought by saying that, it wouldn't offend." Do you have anything like that, siblings, children, parents used to say that you look back on and think, really?

No, nothing like that. All I ever received was a “maybe” from my mother, which always meant “no”.

@DocAndersen After we grow up, we learn to speak when we need to.

cute for a little guy. you just wonder how he picked that up. I have a cousin that says the word "that" while talking every 2 or 3 words. Kind of hard to explain but it is nerve wracking.

We laugh about it all the time. 'I don't mean to be rude but ..... ' It's like it makes it okay.

@DocAndersen lol I have spoken about this to my friend before and he said pretty much what you said. That just because you say something like that, it doesn't make it any less offensive. Reminds me of when I was in primary school. I'd hear certain kids speaking to others saying things like "You're fat, no offensive." or "You aren't funny, no offensive." It used to make me cringe when "no offensive" was said. Would have been better to just not say anything at all so no one is actually offended.
