Do you swim with your thoughts, against them, or are more drowned by them?

Do you keep your head above the level of your thoughts or are they you?

Are we our thoughts only? We have thoughts, and then we have another part of us that processes these thoughts, deciding on which ones to agree to, and to activate, or to follow, within ourselves. Then, when we act on these thoughts, there are repercussions from our doing this. We are changed, or we grow from the experiences created by our acting on our thoughts. If we can grow, it means that there are different levels of ourselves possible to grow from, and to aspire too. We are not just a fixed entity, which cannot change, or grow, then, isn't it? I would say that the feelingness of life is attached to the actionabilty of thought. Without action, thoughts die, and feelings die with them. We change, not from the thoughts themselves, but from the resultant inspirational attachment of inner wisdom or insights, gained from our seeing the results of thoughts, and so then, we are gaining too, the understanding of how to better choose, or discriminate between, such thoughts in the future. We need to swim with our thoughts, without thinking that they are all that we are. We are swimming in a sea of such thoughts, and we need to swim past some, take some on board, while not letting any thoughts cause us to be drowned by them either. You are more than being just your thoughts, is my thought here, in this article.

For me action and reality are more important than my thoughts

That's true, they, action and reality, are more important than our thoughts. I think that too, and yet our thoughts are the building blocks of our actions, our constructions, and help to describe for us our reality too, painting a thought picture of them for us, thereby helping us to better understand that reality too. Thoughts can be the wheels that roll us into action, if they are attached properly to our cart of reality.

@innertalks I completely agree. But sometimes thoughts take us away from the reality and then all the actions are a waste

@amitkokiladitya Yes, that's true too. That's why we must discriminate to discern which thoughts should be followed, and which discarded. Otherwise, our thoughts will lead us away from reality, and into a fantasy world, of our own making. Reality exists on its own, I think, and is not constructed solely by thoughts, but can be described by them. Our own inner reality must match the real reality, for us not to be living in a fantasy world of our own construction. It is not as simple as it sounds though. It is hard to find what is the real reality sometimes. Christianity paints a picture of reality, as do other religions, for example, but is their painting complete, or depicting the real reality completely fully, or not?

It really depends what my thoughts are. Sometimes I swim against them sometimes with them. Then again with my brain it really seems that I have more of a frogger thought process jumping from one topic to another.

Yes, thoughts can work in many different ways, for different people. We are not the frog though, that's just a description of our thoughts. When we see the frog jumping, we can just observe it, or we can tie it to its place on a rock, with another thought, but it's better to just let thoughts go, than have them fighting against each other, I would guess. Just follow the thoughts that bring us what we want, or as some people say, just follow the positive thoughts.

@Fa_Maverick Well, that sounds good, as long as the frog is not just jumping backwards and forwards from the same rock to the same rock, over and over again. Circular thoughts can be a trap too. I also like to follow random thoughts too. It can be fun.

@innertalks If I tied it to the rock then it wouldn't be able to move which would stop my randomized thought process which would be no fun. I don't fight against what I called my frogger thought process because more often than not it is a good thought process that saves me from the bad ones which are the ones I swim against because if I didn't it wouldn't have a happy end.

I'm a horrible swimmer . I feel like my thoughts (this big ball of complexities) is its own little world that is locked in the inside, while the outside world (reality) and what I actually do is a separate entity. When my thoughts can find the right doors, it can enter the outside world . . . it can function and be free. Other times my thoughts would rather hide right where they are and continue to hang on to the ball. It is all intertwined and related . . . but I'd have to say in the past I've let my thoughts overwhelm me . . . these days I'm working on taking more action by widening the doors that let the thoughts pass through.

@innertalks Oh yes, the thoughts are abundant . True about realities trapping people. I've been there too. But then the negative thoughts start growing wildly inside . . . and it can be quite dangerous when there is no room left - literally suffocating. Thoughts can be limitless . . . and if only we can see reality as limitless too. But often times we do place limits on reality (well, there are other factors than just our heads, so we have to). It's just sad when reality is on freeze mode for those who allow that one track thinking to override them. Heaviness of the ball - yes - no one wants to walk around with a bowling ball head. Eventually that affects the neck, shoulder, and possibly the rest of the body . . . the stress of thought weight can affect your health. It's ok to have a big ball of complex thoughts . . . as long as you keep the ball rolling . . . .

@much2say Yes, we cannot stuff everything into our heads and try to process it all at once; we suffocate then with no space to move around in for ourselves. It's probably worse to place limits on reality, though, than to extend reality by adding fantasy to it. What we imagine to be true, even if fantasy, does in its own way still connect us to the greater reality, as all things connect to this greater reality, whether we can see that for now, or not.

At least, you are having plenty of free thoughts, and trying to work out which ones best serve you. Some realities trap people too. Their thoughts become onesided, one track, because they live from some small picture of reality, that has been distorted in some way, or which is not the full reality. They become thought fanatics, spurred on to think only in a certain way, or direction, because their view of reality only faces in that way too. We don't want to sit under our big ball of complex thoughts too long either, as we will be stopped from bouncing somewhere else then too. We are held then to that ball of thoughts only by the very heaviness of that complex ball... LOL...

We are indeed given many a choice to choose from - true democracy in action! That I think is the inner knowing, soul, prompting and guiding us. Then we should be aware of the consequences of our actions. I think 90% live out their lives without thinking too much and finding comfort in safety zones. There is nothing wrong in enjoying the sights and sounds of our wonderful physical world while the very few come to know there is another world to explore - the spiritual one. I like the inner promptings and the choice given - siva

Yes, we have the best of both worlds, inner promptings that are just that, promptings, which still allow us to make the choices, and the number of things that we can choose between is as unlimited as our thoughts are. We are our soul, in some respects, as I believe in the idea that we are not humans having a spiritual experience, but spiritual beings having a human experience, but when we are being human, the focus is there, and so that's where the choices seem to be made from too.

@Shiva49 Some people see the choices, but then are too afraid of others, and societal pressures to follow them anyway. I have always been more like that. I follow the head sheep, because, he is tough and big, and protective, and threatening. Behind him though, I am still living from my own choices whenever I get the chance to do so, behind his back...LOL...I feel fulfilled in a clandestine way, but I certainly do not feel free, living like this.

@innertalks Till a few years ago, I couldn't act on the choices like most being led like a sheep! To live all our lives like that is a great opportunity lost in terms of listening to our soul. Now I have the luxury to understand life more taking in the sights and sounds of not only the physical world but also delving into spiritual aspects of life. I feel fulfilled that way - siva
