"Saturday Night Fever" is a drama that was released in 1977. The music is by Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, Robin Gibb and David Shire. The "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack is one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time. The movie received mostly positive reviews and did extremely well at the box office with a budget of $3.5 million, it took in receipts of $237.1 million. CAST John Travolta - Anthony "Tony" Manero Karen Lynn Gorney - Stephanie Mangano Barry Miller - Bobby C Joseph Cali - Joey Paul Pape - Double J Donna Pescow - Annette Bruce Ornstein - Gus Val Bisoglio - Frank Manero, Sr. Julie Bovasso - Flo Manero Martin Shakar - Frank Manero, Jr. Lisa Peluso - Linda Manero Nina Hansen - Grandmother Sam Coppola - Dan Fusco From the first downbeat of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees you will know that this is going to be a special movie. The movie opens with 19-year-old Tony Manero walking down the street to the beat of the music with a paint can in one hand. He's from the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, and lives with his parents (his father drinks too much and is unemployed), grandmother and younger sister, and has a dead-end job at a paint store...and on the weekends he escapes his mundane life and goes to the 2001 Odyssey disco club. On Friday night Tony dresses up to go to 2001 with his friends Joey, Double J, Gus and Bobby C. Annette also hangs around, as she is in love with Tony and wants a more intimate relationship with him. At the dinner table he hurriedly eats while his family compares him unfavorably with his older brother, Frank, Jr., who is a Catholic priest. Tony's mother crosses herself every time she mentions his name. Tony's friends meet him outside and then drive to 2001. Inside the place pulses with the music. The gang comes here to spend their weekends and their paychecks. Tony notices a new girl named Stephanie on the dance floor. He goes to the bar area where he's joined by Annette. She wants him to practice with her for the dance competition. He agrees but wants to make it clear that they're just practicing, not dating. You must see this movie, if only for the music. There is a dance sequence yet to come in the story in which Tony dances solo on a lighted floor. He is absolutely amazing; and so is the music. I give this movie 5 stars out of 5, thumbs up and my full recommendation. Don't just get the movie, make sure you get the soundtrack as well. This movie is rated R.
A fan-made trailer in 1080p Bluray.

I couldn't wait to see this movie when it was first released and I thought it was amazing ... but now when I watch it I think it is so cheesy. I loved the Bee Gees though. Music from my time.

I loved the music, I watched the movie when it was released and I was not impressed. I re watched a few years ago and I think that only the musics are good, the movie is so silly.

Beyond music and dance, is a serious thought provoking story where looking over at the lights of Manhattan represents more to life than the neighborhood. Travolta's solo dance remains electrifying.

I remember watching that movie years ago. I was surprised to see just how good John Travolta could dance.
