Im Not Evolving

Now and then over time I have noticed things that I have used extensively in the past but because of modern tech, I have forgotten how to use. Simple things that were everyday usages. For one, a basic landline phone. If i'm told to answer a land line and its a cordless phone, I pick it up and start talking into it, wondering as to why its still ringing. I forget to press the answer button. And the button to end the call evades me at times. I also miss the sound of the rotary dial making its noises. The most famous one that ive mentioned on here a lot, the t.v. remote. I miss the simplicity of it. Now you have buttons to make all kinds of choices. Too many worthless channels to choose from, can't remember what channel number they are. I swear I have the correct button pressed to change the channel, but I dont. Cars are getting on the list also. With all the controls on a steering wheel, I seem to press the bluetooth button instead of the volume. Window down/up, instead of the wipers. I have to look at the wheel when im wanting to use a button, its very distracting and scary for passengers when they see me with my eyes fixated on the wheel instead of the road (Ha ha...oops). Its a very disheartening thing to realize that my dumb@$$ is using a device thats smarter than me. The devices even brag about their intellectual superiority over me by labeling themselves as a smart phone, smart t.v., smart this and smart that. Then it dawned on me, another smartie is becoming popular, the smart appliance. Yup, thats right, a refrigerator. Gone will be the days of the nagging spouse reminding you to buy eggs, milk and butter. Now your refrigerator will text/e-mail you with a grocery list. I miss the days of when I was revered for my intelligence. I miss being called a smart@$$. I'm slowly becoming outdated... obsolete. Photograph- Taken/Owned by me, Plethos

@infatuatedbby - yeah, who needs a fridge to tell you "are you sure you want to eat that?'

Am refusing to be submerged into the plethora of technology. I have never ever bought a microwave.

@Plethos I don't have a toaster oven, too. But I am open to the idea because I love toasting bread with cheese. I have an oven range though which I don't use. That came with the stove I use for cooking.

You are right, our appliances get smarter everyday while we get dumber it seems.

and it still has to be plugged into a wall socket, so maybe not so advanced.

Yep yep yep - I hear ya on all counts! I don't feel like evolving . . . not in the way of technology anyway but I am left with a feeling of having to obligate myself to catch up with the rest of the world - sigh.

I wish I could be around long enough to hear my grandchildren say the same thing, their tech is smarter than them. Mine is too. It's sad getting old sometimes.

im starting to think that its not so much of a generational thing, but more of a short attention span dilemma on my end. i cant stand long overexplained directions. just give me the quick set up and as i go along, ill come up with questions.

Technology seems to advance faster than we can learn the new.

I have absolutely no doubt that you're still a smart*ss, Plethos! If you quit buying all the smart devices and just use the old style one you'd have no problems!
