Happy Sunday morning from this side of earth. Today is a special day for India. It's our Republic Day and on this day India got it's Constitution post independence. So this national festival will be celebrated all across the country with flag hoisting, singing of national anthem and cultural programs. India Gate in Delhi is the center of attraction. Our president will hoist the flag there. There is a long program to showcase the rich culture and heritage of India. The three wings of our Armed forces.. Army, Navy and Air Force showcase their strength and valor. Many schools present their cultural program. It's the day when country honors bravery awards to children who show extra courage in their lives, gives gallantry awards to soldiers and our civilians too are honoured with different civilian awards for their extraordinary contribution in their field. President of Brazil is our chief guest this year for our Republic day parade at India Gate. In all states, their respective governor hoist the flag. Such celebrations take place all across our country. Republic Day Parade has been very close to my heart since childhood. I have personally attended it so many years. And twice I was part of a cultural dance that our school performed. I belong to a family where many in each generation have served the country in defense in various capacities. Each year I know someone from my family are there. Feels me with pride. In 2015 soon after C16.. was introduced to Indian Air Force, my brother in law as a pilot flew that at the parade. Later National Geography had a special show on Tough fighters in India and he was featured and interviewed for the same. So I am awake and I will make a special breakfast today. My husband and children will be stuck to TV watching the live telecast. It feels us with pride. My friend got me baby potatoes from her farm. I have boiled and peeled and marinated them. Now after some time I will make dum aloo in the restaurant style. We will have it with poori ( fried Indian bread). The picture is of my potatoes marinated and kept aside. Meanwhile I will finish some more chores and get ready to watch TV with my family. I have to take my daughter for her music class in afternoon. That's pretty much the plan for the day. How is your Sunday plan going?

We have our independence day on 15th August. After few years of Independence, our Constitution came into implementation on this day.

We watched part of the parade in Kathmandu as we were having lunch in a cafe. It is also Australia Day but there is controversy now as our aboriginal people view it as 'invasion day' when white people invaded their land.

@arunima25 Nowadays they celebrate Australia Day with protests as the aboriginals now claim it as 'Invasion Day'. There is talk of changing the date to avoid the controversy.

@arunima25 thanks for that ma'am.. I'll respond back to those comments soon Nope. It's a writing assignment. I need to refer from internet and gather points to make it an assignment but unfortunately there was a poor network connection and I couldn't work on it yesterday. Will begin the assignment little later or might do it tomorrow. Time is there for submission. Have a great evening.

Happy Republic Day to you. Nice to know that your family boasts of having defence people. It is matter of pride for you to have taken part in republic day cultural program. I was selected to attend Republic day parsde in 1969 through N.C.C when I was in Inter Science but decided not to attend it because the camp for the parade was of one month from 1st of Jan to 31 of Jan and perhaps if I had attended that parade i might not have been an engineer but I still regret not to have attended it.

That must have been a little disheartening to miss such a spectacular show and be a part of it. Yes it feels good to belong to a defense background. I grew up in Air Force colony. It always feels proud to be an Indian. Yesterday while watching the parade, we felt good to hear my younger cousin's name when he flew global C17 in air as a leading wing Commander

India Gate and all around that area is very beautiful. The wide avenues leading up to the Presidents house and all the lovely buildings and ministry buildings there. They were preparing for this parade when we were in India. It looked like it would be great fun. Have a wonderful day.

It's actually a great show every year. It's spectacular to watch it on screen but definitely watching it in person has no match. Many people travel to the city at this time to witness the show.
