Johnny Carson and the Toilet Paper Crisis

Surely you remember Johnny Carson from his days as host of the Tonight Show. He was hilarious and had some great guests during his hosting from 1962 until 1992. Remember his co-host, Ed McMahon? And, of course, his magician role as Carnac. So funny! I was reading about him and found that in 1973, after one of his funnier stunts on the show he started a toilet paper crisis. His influence was that high. ( I have this thing where I have to have a lot of TP on hand or I am not happy so this story interested me.) Just alluding to a toilet paper shortage in the markets. The manufacturers and stores had to ration TP supplies until the crisis was averted. Carson apologized for starting the whole thing.

I like to be ready and have a supply on hand too . If he had that much influence regarding toilet paper, imagine what he could have done with that influence in other areas - politically too maybe?

I don't remember that. What did he do to accomplish that?
