"The Silence of the Lambs" is s psychological horror-thriller which was released in 1991. The movie was nominated for 7 Academy Awards and won 5, 5 Golden Globes and won 1, 9 BAFTA Awards and won 2. Box office receipts were $272.7 million against a budget of $19 million. CAST Jodie Foster - Clarice Starling Anthony Hopkins - Dr. Hannibal Lecter Scott Glenn - Jack Crawford Ted Levine - Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gumb Anthony Heald - Dr. Frederick Chilton Brooke Smith - Catherine Martin Diane Baker - U. S. Senator Ruth Martin Clarice Starling, FBI Academy student, is pulled from her training at the FBI Training Facility at Quantico, Virginia, by Jack Crawford of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit. She will be giving the VICAP questionnaire to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, forensic psychiatrist and incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer. The assignment is in direct relation to finding the serial killer, Buffalo Bill. Starling goes to the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Dr. Frederick Chilton takes her to his cell which consists of thick glass panels and windowless stone walls. Dr. Lecter is a sophisticated, cultured man. The first look we have of Dr. Lecter was directed perfectly. The camera swings around to find him standing in front of the glass panel, straight-backed and expressionless. The interview goes from good to bad as Lecter feels out Starling's personality and intent. Lecter dismisses her and then calls her back, giving her a riddle containing information about a former patient. The solved riddle leads Starling to a rent-a-storage lot where the severed head of Benjamin Raspail is found in a jar in a car. Starling returns to see Lecter again; and he links Raspail to Buffalo Bill. Lecter vows to profile Buffalo Bill if they will transfer him to a facility far from Dr. Chilton's authority. If you want to find out what happens next, you'll have to watch the movie. "Silence of the Lambs" is an excellent movie in every sense of the word -- full of nail-biting suspense. The cast is all good in this film; but Hopkins will make your skin crawl. He's perfect in his role of the maniacal Lecter. I wholeheartedly give my recommendation for this movie.
