I Forgot About My Book

I've been working on various writing projects. Recently, I submitted a short children's story to a publisher. The publisher said they read through submissions weekly and would contact people. Well, it's been more than a week and I've heard nothing. I then thought I'd look into self-publishing something else. I'd tried to self-publish the one I submitted but the number of pages didn't meet the minimum. It turned out that I could, in fact, sell it as an eBook. Anyway, that wasn't the one I'd forgotten. There was another that I'd started on KDP - that one was a poetry book but I want to add some more to that (I had forgotten about that too). The one I'd forgotten, though, was on a different self-publishing site called Lulu.com. That was a poetry book that said it was from 2011 (or 2007, I think was the original creation date). I have no advertised that on some of my other sites but no sales so far. That's an eBook as well - I'm not sure why because I originally put it on for sale as a paperback. I had a message about the one I'm publishing on KDP (Amazon). The message said something about it being available in the public domain so I had to prove it was mine. I removed the online version from my website and resubmitted to KDP! It's now been approved for publishing so I'm waiting for it to be ready. I wonder if there are other online things I've forgotten - I'm quite certain there are some old profiles on various sites that may or may not exist. Have you ever forgotten about your online content? Have you ever had any surprises like discovering that you'd sold lots of a product that you'd forgotten you had for sale?

I've only submitted one project for an ebook; and it really needs to be illustrated; so I'm going to take it down.

I didn't illustrate mine. There's a cover photo (which is a drawing I made on Paint). If I make something longer, I'd probably add some illustrations. Can you do different versions of yours? Perhaps keep the one on there but also offer an illustrated edition.

@pumpkinjam The cost of getting it illustrated is too prohibitive.

@LindaOHio That's a shame. I am still trying to work out how to include illustrated pages on mine!

It is easy to forget the things we do online, especially when we go from one thing to another. How long have you been writing?

Yes, it is easy to forget. I even wrote something on my WordPress site about that - I think it's called 'Musings of a Grasshopper Mind'. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I recall making up a song when I was about 7 years old (of course, I can't remember it now but it had something to do with a baby in a pushchair). My first published work was a poem in an anthology (I must see if I can find that - I'm sure my mum has a copy) when I was 14. I think my first paid writing work was about 10 years ago. I've dipped in and out over the years but I'm now making more effort to finish things!

@lazydaizee I use various names - sometimes I use my own (Rebecca/Becky Lucas for older work, Rebecca/Becky Harvey for recent work). Sometimes I use a pseudonym, Sapphire M. Ravenclaw (or Sapphire Magpie Ravenclaw or just Sapphire Ravenclaw). There is a chance I've also got other forgotten work under other names If I don't have to use a real name or a real sounding name, I'll just be Pumpkinjam.

I'm not expecting massive success from this particular one but, if there is some success, I am hoping to publish more. I don't think I'll use Lulu again, though, I'll just stick with KDP.
