1886 - Karl Benz patents the first successful gasoline-powered automobile.
1936 - The first inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame is announced.
1945 - Tom Selleck was born. He is an American actor, film producer and businessman. He is best known for the roles of Thomas Magnum in Magnum P.I. (1980-1988), Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods since 2010 and Dr. Richard Burke on Friends. Some of his movies: Three Men and a Baby, Quigley Down Under, Mr. Baseball and Lassiter.
1954 - Oprah Winfrey was born. She is an American media executive, actress, talk show host, TV producer and philanthropist. She is known for hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show from 1986-2011 and for the movie The Color Purple, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She was the richest African American of the 20th century and North America's first African American multi-billionaire. Her net worth is estimated to be approximately $2.7 billion. She is also the greatest black philanthropist in American history. She has been involved in many projects on stage, in film, online and on radio.
