Why do people wish someone a happy birthday on their own wall?

I just saw someone I am connected to on FB wish a happy birthday to another person. Instead of posting to that person's wall, they posted it to theirs. And the person wasn't even tagged. This is not the first time I've seen this done and wonder why people do it. For one, if that person is not on FB they won't even see the post. And if that person is on FB he/she may not even see the post. So what is the point of wishing someone a happy birthday on FB on your own wall if that person is either not on FB at all or is not tagged? It seems weird to me.

I have seen it done before, my uncle posted happy birthday to me on his wall. I don’t think he has a full understanding of fob, isn’t on enough to worry himself. Mainly he goes there to message family.

Facebook has changed so many times, very few people fully understand how it's done. Especially those, who aren't active members, like me. It has been revised about ten times, that I know of.

I guess there are people that perhaps have no idea that you can post on other people's wall. But another thing just hit me... some people set their profiles that others cannot post on their wall...

@kobesbuddy Maybe that is not the real person but someone who created an account posing as that person. That seems to happen often.

@lovebuglena And many people join Facebook, then never fill out any personal information as to who they are, where they live, or their previous residents. One member only had a name and about two photos, from two years ago.

I am finding that people who do that don't really know how to use Facebook too well. I've also seen questions being asked to a certain person on their wall - that person isn't ever going to see it .

I think maybe they are confused and think they are posting on someone else's wall. It's very strange if it is done on purpose!

Maybe they are confused but sometimes it seems it is done on purpose.

@lovebuglena Did this ever happen to you? I am thinking maybe if it happens you can ask that person directly. I have no idea why they post on their own wall.

I find it weird. I in fact don't like the idea of personal wishes on a social platform. It should be done personally.

A lot of people wish a happy birthday to others on FB by posting on that person's wall. The wishes are generally (from what I've noticed) more or less generic so I see nothing wrong with making it public. But if the wish is a bit more personal in nature, then I agree that it should be private messaged and not written on that person's wall.

I have also seen that, but I think it's due to lack of understanding of how FB works.
