My dad is THIS bored....

My dad is going pretty well. There was a bit of a concern with his toe but apparently that is all fine now. A young woman who only just became a nurse came to our house and wasn't sure if my dad's toe was healing the way it should. But yesterday a much older and experienced nurse had a look and said that it was actually fine.
I feel bad for my dad because this is what happened last time ( last year ). Nurse's and doctor's opinions vary and it's a roller coaster for my poor dad. He goes from being panicked to be relieved then to panicked again and so on. It's very hard when nurses keep changing and giving their personal opinions.
Anyway, the other day my dad's sugar dropped really low into 2 point something and he nearly passed out. So I said that we should get a big bag of jelly beans to keep near his bed just in case. Luckily he can tell when his sugar is dropping. He starts to feel sleepy and his vision becomes blurry. Also very grateful that sugar rises back up again pretty quickly when having a jelly bean or honey or just something quickly to boost it.
So tonight I did shopping. My dad drove me there but I went in by myself to keep him off his foot and I bought a big bag of jelly beans. It's those jelly beans specifically to boost sugar levels.
Anyway, when we got home my dad asked if I could bring the bag of jelly beans in with zip lock sandwich bags. I laughed because without telling me, I already knew what he wanted to do.
My dad, poor thing who can't walk around much right now, was so bored that he decided to separate all the colours.
I just had to take a photo of it to show you!

I like your dad!
When I have a sugar drop I call it white out, things get bright and fuzzy.

@andriaperry I've never heard it as a white out before. Sounds a bit scary. Does that happen often to you?

@VivaLaDani13 They should not give an opinion if they are not enough trained, they scare people.

@LadyDuck Thank you. He seems to be doing fine right now which is good! And I agree. I understand they are young and in training but I wish they would ask for advice from a more experienced nurse first before frightening the patient with their own opinions.

I am glad his toe is fine and I bet he is too.Why do they send those with no experience and confusing someone? I will never understand that. I hate when you get conflicting information. You saved him. How long before he can walk again on his foot?

@Hannihar I don't know I mean, it does help with their training but I do wish they could train with someone who is experienced instead of going off to people's houses solo.
He has been walking this whole time which is great but he does just need to not walk too much especially with shoes.

@Hannihar He wears one normal shoe on the good foot and a different bigger shoe on the other to give his foot more space but he needs special shoes to make sure his feet are more safe and I believe it will always be this way while he is diabetic. In winter, same kinda deal.
It is Summer here but no sandals or flip flops.

Wil it always be like that or will he be able to walk with shoes again? What does he wear in winter? I can see in summer he can wear flip flops or sandals. Either they do not care or do not realize they are scaring the person and need to know the facts. There are news places that do that too. They say something just to sell news instead of getting all the facts. It is just wrong.

@hereandthere That is very kind of you to help your mum out but yeah, I'm sorry for all the different opinions she gets. It's quite stressful!
Yeah he is ok driving for a little while but much better to just stay off his foot. So not walking for long is best for him.

@hereandthere I'm sure he would love that but sadly he can't stay out for long periods of time like before. Well, no let me rephrase that. He can stay out but as long as he isn't walking too much.

@xstitcher lol I love jelly beans but hate the black ones. My dad and brother love the black ones too. My dad isn't really a reader. Nice to know you're reading. I love to read too.

@marlina Exactly right. It's why I picked these up for him just in case. Too scary when his sugar drops.

Now that's boredom! I'm glad the jelly beans boosted his blood sugar quickly. I'm also glad the more experienced nurse knew your father's toe is healing as it should.
One day the other nurse will be experienced too. We all start somewhere.

He has found a good way to kick boredom
It's not comforting when opinions vary and we are not sure whom to trust.
Is he able to drive with ease?? One has to be alert about drop in sugar levels.

Yeah he is able to drive just fine which is still good. He just needs to try stay off it to give his foot a good rest.
