Man convinces wife to pull teeth, proceeds to feed her soup.

Mr. Blau played "the meanest trick" that Judge Jonas had ever seen. Mr. Blau was a cunning type of man who convinced his wife to pull out all her teeth and then refused to buy her dentures. His reasoning? It was cheaper to feed her soup than it was for him to buy dentures. Well Mrs. Blau wasn't going to stand for that, she took her husband to court where she was not only rewarded two sets of dentures, but also "atleast one beef steak a week" What would you have done if you were Mrs. Blau? What if you were Mr. Blau? Would you refuse to abide the judges rule?

I would have done exactly the same as she did.

I think she was brave to sue him. This was back in the 1920's, and I don't know that much about the era, but I feel like she could have easily been laughed out of the courtroom.

@simone10 I guess the judge was a man ahead of his time. I feel like this was still very much in an era where women were trying to gain more rights, but they hadn't yet succeeded. It really wasn't until the first world war that women were given equal roles.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I was thinking the same thing. I'm really surprised the judge ruled in her favor.

What I cannot understand is why she accepted to have all her teeth pulled out.

There wasn't much information given but I am thinking her teeth must have already been rotting out of her mouth. It was probably only a few teeth that needed to be pulled.

She was brave to do it in that time period. I don't know all that much about the 1920's, but while I think women were standing up and demanding their own rights, it was still a tumultuous period. I just wonder if he ever did what the judge deemed him to do.

I love all these old off the wall stories. Like this is hilarious, and sad all at the same time.

I wish we knew more. Like, were her teeth rotting out already? Probably so. he probably convinced her to pull the last two or three or something.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yeah there was probably some pre existing issue with her teeth. People don't just get teeth pulled unless there is a reason.

@thislittlepennyearns Right, and I don't want to think about how she pulled them out. Back in those days I think that the barber was also the dentist. She probably did it at home though.

I don't understand why she had to get all her teeth out.

I think that her teeth were already rotting out. She probably had very few teeth left when her husband suggested she pull them out.

@Nevena83 He wanted to be cheap and not pay for anything. He did not think she needed dentures, because soups were much cheaper.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Now I understand, but I don't understand why he didn't pay her a denture afterwards.

Yes,I agree with you there. I'm not convinced that the man actually ended up buying her the steaks. The teeth? Sure, but I doubt he kept up with buying steak.

I think Mrs. Blau needs to leave Mr. Blau.

I think she should have left him, but this was the 1920's, women were beginning to fight for their rights, but it wasn't quite there yet.
