Electric cars only by 2035 in the U.K?

A surprise announcement today by PM Boris! To kick off the build up to COP26, the big global climate change meeting in Glasgow in November, our PM proposed a ban on all new polluting petrol, diesel and hybrid cars by 2035 as we push towards electric cars. You can keep your classic cars but you can tbuy new fossil fuel ones. The car industry were not expecting this news, especially the ban on lower polluting hybrid cars, which they sold 2.1 million last year. Hybrids use electrical battery power under low speeds then switch to petrol at higher speeds as the petrol side of the engines recharges the battery in motion. Electric cars are a great idea. They are low maintenance , cheap to run and have lower insurance rates. The negatives are obvious though. One journey means one charge or you will be stuck for four hours at a recharging point along way from home. We only sold 39,000 electric cars last year and charging points are rare. They are expensive cars and so limited who can buy them. You can charge them at home, if you have the right kit, not cheap, and you need on property parking. 40% of homes simply dont have that and its illegal to park of the sidewalk. At the moment electric cars and the huge savings are the preserve of the middle class here. To have the green revolution we need them to be much cheaper, more charging points for them and ways of charging at home. The big negative for the government is the loss of £6 billion pounds in petrol tax down the line. they are hot going to tolerate that, pollution charges and average speed cameras one way to claw that tax back.

I am wondering if that is going to make electricity rates higher?

I wish this would happen everywhere, and oil tycoons would be a tad bit sad.

We need carbon fuels to make the electricity

I see many recharging posts spring up in the US. Who knows what new fuels will be available in 2035.

I can't see them taking off in our outback areas.
