After 35 days of rock favorites with “love” in the title the countdown to Valentines Day has begun! Now it’s time for the top ten. All those favorites’ names you’ve already seen? Does that tell you how difficult this was to compile? Lots of coin flipping going on! Here’s the start of the top ten. #10: Love Letter - Bonnie Raitt Yesterday I used a Was (Not Was) song to close out the alphabetical list. And, waddaya know, here they are again! Bonnie Raitt was a “cult figure” for a long time, scoring one minor hit (her blistering bluesy cover of Del Shannon’s “Runaway”) in the 70s. 1989’s Nick of Time propelled her into the limelight; and, in the process, made Don Was one of THE major record producers of the era. Of course, as Was (Not Was) was still active at the time, Was (real name: Don Fagenson) brought the band with him. So here you’ll hear W(NW) lead vocalists Sweet Pea Atkinson and Sir Harry Bowens providing the soulful backing vocals on this track that’s basically about a woman stalking her boyfriend.
