Well, I think I have all the documents required to get our REAL IDs in March when we go to our appointments. Yesterday we went to the county I was born in and got a certified copy of my birth certificate. The old birth certificate I had ... had been laminated years ago. Guess what? They won't accept a laminated birth certificate. This is what I have for myself ... and for Skip. I have certified birth certificates, social security cards, photo ID (driver's license), pieces of mail that has our address on them. All is in a big envelope ready to go. This time I hope to once and for all accomplish getting the REAL ID. It is required here in North Carolina and other states. If you want to learn more just Google it.

The laminated birth certificate wasn't accepted because the officer couldn't rub her finger across the certificate to feel the raised seal ... so, I had to go to the Register of Deeds to get a certified copy ... it has the raised seal proving it is a real birth certificate.

@GrannyGee here the accepted one is the one with the seal but you cannot feel it as it is very flat.

I had to have all that just to get a drivers license last year. I guess they're trying to make sure there aren't any illegal aliens in the US, can't blame them.

I was reading about a lot of things and that was one of them. I bet later on there will be more reasons than there are now.

I don't know how many more items they could possibly require @GrannyGee

Here you need to have a star on your drivers license to fly. I do not know what you need to get that star. I have no indention of flying anyway.

That's what we will get on our license ... a gold star. It will mean we can fly, go into a federal building and such. I bet a little later it will mean more things. To get the star here ... one has to have a marriage license, certified birth certificate, license or picture ID, social security card and 2 pieces of mail at your current address. This is in North Carolina.

Bureaucracy is quite awful but I guess we all have to jump through hoops just to get these things. I see you are in Louisburg my friends live there too. We visited about 10 years ago. I loved it there!

@GrannyGee OH right when I visited it was quite a rural place my friends live in a very quiet location there surrounded by forests. It was heaven. I really liked our visit there. We also went to the mountains and visited the Biltmore estate. It is even more beautiful there. I love the USA!
