Do you still read a daily newspaper?

When I was a young man serving an apprenticeship I bought a daily newspaper every working day of the year. It was a traditional thing to do. My father did it so I did it. I bought my daily newspaper on my way to work every day but this stopped when I retired 18 months ago and I haven't bought one since. Sales of hard copy newspapers are declining year upon year. It would seem that more and more people are abandoning the traditional newspaper in favour of either TV or online sources of news. Is the end in sight for the printed newspaper?

Not a fan of online news reading. I like to catch the news on morning TV

@ScotMac I too watch the news on tv. Just saying the only way to read the paper is online.

Yes, I do. Nothing beats the feeling of holding an actual paper and smelling the ink on it.

Not really no. I like to keep up with what is going on in the mainstream but I don“t read online for more than ten minutes at a time.

I must confess to abandoning most sources of news. It's too damned depressing. I occasionally watch the TV news if it comes on and I can't be bothered to reach for the remote control. I figure that stuff is going to happen regardless of whether or not I'm aware of it and anything of major importance would probably be brought to my attention by some means or other.

@ScotMac Going back to one of my comments on one of your previous discussions, I would have to read a real newspaper in one sitting. As soon as I put anything down then Mrs. WorDazza deems it surplus to requirements and whisks it away.

You know the saying - 'Bad News Makes Good News'! I used to like browsing through the local news to find out what the local Joe Bloggs's had been up to!

We live out of town and can't have the paper delivered. And we don't want to drive 7 kms to get it so we don't get it any more. We usually catch up on the internet or on evening TV.

A year's subscription to our daily newspaper is almost $300 a year--I get a senior's subscription--paper Sunday, Wednesday and Friday for $10 a year--I know, I know--it just doesn't make sense!! Yes printed newspapers are on the way out if they aren't all ready but I want/need my comics, Jumble and crossword puzzles!!

We subscribed to the paper for decades but canceled last year because they kept raising their prices.

I am also of the opinion that in coming time newspaper reading is going to be nostalgic event rather then a daily event

Sadly, I think you are correct. The older generation may miss them but not youngsters brought up in the digital age
