Getting prepared for new hobbies

I registered for the volleyball team near my place last week. It has been so many years since my last practice but I remember it was a fun sport. I came accross this group of people who are playing socially every week and I decided to join, my first game was on Wednesday.
I really enjoyed the game but my hands are now bruised and my wrist is a little swollen from the serve and the impact with the ball. I applied some ice and cold pads after the game for the swelling. The other players are wearing wrist pads for protection but I was not well prepared.
Do you prepare yourself well before starting something new, or you just start and figure it out later?
I'm more of a "let's start and see what happens" person but this time I wish I was better prepared!

I love volleyball, too, but like you, my hands get beat up. I never knew to wear wristbands.
Hope you heal up quickly and buy yourself some wristbands before the next game.
I usually try to be prepared when I begin a sport. Now I need blocks for yoga. Always something to buy!

I am going to get a wrist band and some tape tomorrow, my wrist & forearms hurt too much from the ball. It's a nice sport, I would love to keep playing and hopefully my arms will become stronger.
It's a good idea to have your own equipment for yoga because you can also use it at home to practice! There is something new to buy for every sport isn't it?

During my highschool years, I also joined volleyball games at our school and they trained us and told everything that we will be needing when we play it. I was ready when I first played the game

That sounds nice, you had proper preparation. I thought that the hard part would be to control the ball, and didn't ask for information on how to prepare. I am sure in high school they trained us also , I don't remember when I started playing. Do you still play volleyball?

@m_audrey6788 It's a difficult sport for injuries actually, but there are many other activities that you could do.

I am kind of lets see what happens sort. Volleyball is fun, but it seems like I always end up jamming my fingers on the ball which is painful. I haven't played much since HS.

Before there was no time for me either. With this new job and new country everyone is very relaxed and even though we have to sleep very early we keep the afternoon free a few days per week.
It's good to be social and participate in a team. I only did activities just for myself for years.
