"To Sir, With Love" is a British drama which was released in 1967. The movie received generally positive reviews. United States box office receipts totaled $42.4 million against a budget of $640,000. CAST Sidney Poitier - Mark Thackeray Geoffrey Bayldon - Theo Weston Suzy Kendall - Gillian Blanchard Faith Brook - Grace Evans Edward Burnham - Mr. Florian Christian Roberts - Bert Denham Judy Geeson - Pamela Dare Lulu - Barbara "Babs" Pegg An immigrant to Britain from British Guyana via California, Mark Thackeray, applies for an engineering position; but it will be a long time before a decision to hire will be made. In the interim, he takes a teaching position at North Quay Secondary School at the tough East End of London. The North Quay staff has varying opinions of the students from contemptuous to afraid. The "kids" are mostly good but come from rough homes and excel at taking control of the classroom. Some have been rejected from other schools; and the last teacher who tried to control them resigned. The unruly bunch is led by Bert Denham and Pamela Dare. The students progress from pulling disruptive to distasteful pranks; and through it all, Thackeray remains calm for the most part and won't let them get the better of him...until one day when the girls pull a very distasteful prank; and Thackeray loses it. He tells the boys to leave the classroom and tells the girls that they are guilty of disgusting and sluttish behavior. He retreats to the staff room, distraught that he let the "kids" get to him. If you want to know what happens, you will have to watch the movie. The ending is a little implausible for me; but I think that you will enjoy this movie regardless. Lulu gets a chance to sing "To Sir, With Love" which is very nice. I personally cannot imagine being a teacher in a school with such ruffians! I give this movie my recommendation.
