"Trading Places" is a comedy that was released in 1983. It was nominated for 1 Academy Award, 2 Golden Globes and 3 BAFTA Awards (won 2 BAFTA Awards). The movie received mostly positive reviews. The budget was $15 million; and the box office receipts were $90.4 million. Adjusted for inflation this movie is the #58 highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
CAST
Dan Aykroyd - Louis Winthorpe III
Eddie Murphy - Billy Ray Valentine
Ralph Bellamy - Randolph Duke
Don Ameche - Mortimer Duke
Denholm Elliott - Coleman
Jamie Lee Curtis - Ophelia
Kristin Holby - Penelope Witherspoon
Paul Gleason - Clarence Beeks
Randolph and Mortimer Duke own a successful commodities brokerage firm, Duke & Duke, in Philadelphia. The Dukes hold opposing views on "nature versus nurture" and decide to hold an experiment. They will take someone from the street and put them in the place of someone in their organization; and put the man from the organization onto the street and have him lose everything. They pick their managing director, Louis Winthorpe III...refined and educated and engaged to their niece, Penelope.
There is a con artist on the street, Billy Ray Valentine, who is pretending to be blind and paralyzed from the waist down. He gets chased out of the area where he's panhandling and ends up in front of Duke & Duke. Louis accuses him of trying to steal his briefcase; and the Duke Brothers have found their victims and set their bet "at the usual amount".
If you want to find out how this all turns out, you'll have to watch the movie. Murphy, Aykroyd and Curtis are excellent in their roles; and Bellamy and Ameche have fun with their characters. This is not your standard plot. It's something different for a change. I think that this is an excellent movie and one that you will enjoy again and again. "Trading Places" gets a hearty recommendation from me.
This movie is rated R.

I absolutely loved this movie, and still do! Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd are absolutely hilarious, and the movie has a great supporting cast as well.
