"Twister" is an epic action disaster movie which was released in 1996. It was written by Michael Crichton (one of my favorite authors!) and Anne-Marie Martin and directed by Jan de Bont. The movie was met with mixed reviews but was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Mixing. The budget was $92 million; and the box office receipts were $494.5 million. CAST Bill Paxton - Bill "The Extreme" Harding Helen Hunt - Dr. Jo Harding Alexa Vega - Young Jo Thornton Jami Gertz - Dr. Melissa Reeves Cary Elwes - Dr. Jonas Miller Philip Seymour Hoffman - "Dusty" Davis Alan Ruck - Robert "Rabbit" Nurick Jeremy Davies - Brian Laurence Joey Slotnick - Joey Todd Field - Tim "Beltzer" Lewis Scott Thompson - Jason "Preacher" Rowe Wendle Josepher - Patty Haynes Opening scene - June, 1969 - A family takes shelter from an approaching tornado. Down in the shelter, the father tries to hold the storm cellar door closed; but he gets sucked up into the tornado. His wife and daughter, Jo, watch in disbelief. Present day - According to Meteorlogists at the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), there is a building storm system which could produce a record number of tornadoes. Meanwhile retired storm chaser Bill Harding and his fiancee Dr. Melissa Reeves are heading out to meet his former storm-chasing team to get divorce papers from his current wife, Dr. Jo Harding. Ever since Jo's father died in a tornado, she has been sworn to hunt down as many of the giant storms as possible. She's hoping with the new technology available, that this won't happen to someone else. If you want to know what happens next, you will have to watch the movie...but don't think that you will get all involved in characters and plot lines and too much personal drama because this movie is about tornadoes, tornadoes, tornadoes. With a lot of pretty good special effects you'll get your fill of action-packed storm-chasing video. I recommend this movie. This movie is rated PG-13. I think Helen Hunt was great in this movie. When I watched it for the first time, I was sitting on the edge of my seat.

I watched this movie several times. I pumps up the adrenaline. I like the scene where the doctor tied a rope on her tummy and tied herself on some steel bar on the field and her body seems like paper when the tornado passed by
