For a month and a half I’ve given you songs from rock and country that have “love” in the title. Tomorrow is Valentines Day, and all this “love” will end! Four incredible songs to go (two country, one rock, one pop), which made this part a little easier than the rest. Here’s today’s fabulous country song.
#2: Easy Loving - Freddie Hart
This is one of the songs that I’ll praise for an instrumental hook! It begins with a two-note steel guitar line, followed by a two-note “answer” from an organ.
But that’s just part of the charm of this song, Freddie Hart’s biggest hit (and a crossover song). I’ve told this story before, but I’ll repeat it because it’s kind of funny: after Hart recorded this song to fulfill his recording contract with Capitol Records, they dropped him. He just hadn’t been selling much. Then this song took off like a rocket. They quickly re-signed him.
Hart continued performing and recording right up until his death at the age of 91 in 2018. He wrote a lot of great songs, but this one is the most enduring classic.
