I'm trying to learn something new about hot spots. Before I buy my laptop , I want to be able to use it anywhere , not just where there's a connection. Just like my cell phone. There's just too much commotion going on in the library and Panera bread to work on my computer in peace! So I asked about this and the clerk mentioned a hot spot. Now I just read I can use my phone to get internet through its hotspot or tethering. Please help! Does anybody have a hotspot or use tethering from their cell phone to get WiFi on their laptop?!

I usually just ask for the hotspot password when I'm at different places if I can't connect instantly, but this might not be the answer your asking about.

If you're going to use your mobile phone as the hotspot, you have to switch on "Portable WiFi hotspot"(if you're using Android) / "Personal Hotspot"(for iOS) in Settings. Then on your laptop, connect to the wifi just like normal but this time look for your phone's name. The hotspot password is in the Settings where you switched the hotspot on. If you're conscious with your data consumption, don't forget to set your phone's data limit. If you're going to use free public hotspot(restaurants, coffee shops, etc), just ask for their wifi name and password.

You're welcome. Just your phone and mobile data allowance. Another thing you can do is to ask the store rep when you buy a laptop to walk you through it.

I don't know how to turn my iPhone into a hot spot. I know I can but I just don't know how so I've never done it.
