This story is interesting since a German Shepherd name Dax who was a K9 dog with the Ashland Police assigned to work with his handler Sergeant Chris Alberini since 2009 will retire from the force today.
Dax is the first K9 in the history of the police department to be rewarded the Hanna Memorial Award which is the highest award in the police department for saving the life of his owner in 2013.
Chris remembers that incident when a criminal was trapped inside of his home in Ashland when a criminal attempted to use a gun to shoot at the police officers when Dax entered the room and bit the criminal before he could fire his weapon.
Chris admits that having his best friend step down today is bittersweet since all shows have to come to and end.
Chris do not need to feel bad since his new partner is Ajax who will step up to the plate working with Chris from now on.
A dog working in the police force for 11 years along his partner and being alive is a great feat since police dogs like their handlers are not promised to come home safe and sound after a battle with criminals on the street.
Dax will enjoy his retirement years in the company of his owner and his Ajax which Dax deserves.

I agree with you since these kind of stories do not make it to the national news.
