One of my interests is graffiti in ancient buildings. This is a not too old example taken from the ruined abbey at Netley in Hampshire, England. Sue and Jim left their rather beautifully framed names for passers by to view for as long as the weather will allow.

I abhor the graffiti in ancient buildings .It is beyond me why some people would validate their existence that way.

Depends on the building and it's purpose. Most old graffiti in churches is devotional and protective, not vandalism.
