I used to hate it

I took typing lessons when I was a student. It was a long time ago and we used typewriters instead of computers. We had to place something in front of the typewriter so that we couldn't see what we were typing. When we finished an exercise we had to show it to the teacher and if there were no mistakes we were allowed to move on to the next exercise. If we had made mistakes we had to write the same exercise again. The other students moved on to new exercises pretty quickly, but I kept making mistakes and I was stuck with the same exercises. When the class ended I hadn't improved much, and my grade was much lower than my other grades. Now things are completely different. I type very fast and never look at the keyboard while I am typing. I never decided to practice in order to become better. It simply happened because I was writing a lot. I thought that I would never learn it, but I was wrong. Which subjects did you find hard as a student and how do you feel about those subjects today?

I was good at every subject I took except short hand with the symbols you had to make which made no sense at all. I passed but never took the second class.

I have never tried short hand, but I think my mother learned it in the past. I was good at languages and some of the other subjects, but I hated the typing lessons.

That's wonderful. I never liked history, but when I grew up I started reading history books.

I didn't like history in high school, but I think that had something to do with the teacher. She was always in a bad mood and she didn't seem interested in her subject. I have read history books after I left school, and I enjoy them more than the history lessons.

@Porcospino I think I had a problem thinking that the past should not interest me, but when I was growing up I became aware of why history is important.

We were not allowed to look at the keys either and we had to place something in front of the typewriter. I made a lot of mistakes, but I am able to type much faster today.

I learned to type the same way you did, with typewriters in High School typing class. It was hard, but luckily I did learn to type.

We had really old typewriters and they weren't very good. Sometimes they broke down. I never liked the typing lessons, but today I type very fast without looking at the keyboard.

@Porcospino I am the same way. It is nice to be able to type without looking at the keyboard.

That's great. Today I would be able to pass a typing test, but in the past I was really bad at it.

I can still remember the old typewriter where we put the bandpaper in it and push something to the left when we are at the end of the paper.

Yes, I remember that, too. The typewriters we used at school were very old. My mother had a better (newer) typewriter at home.

I also don't look at the keyboard while I am typing. But it would be hard to say by heart the place of letters on the keyboard, I just feel where they are. Mathematics was a subject I was not good at and I am still not good at it.

Me too. I can find the letters without looking at the keyboard, but I couldn't answer if someone asked we where the different letters are. My hands "know" how to find the different letters, I don't think about it. I am not that good at maths either. In high school I chose the language line so I mostly studied languages instead of maths, physics and chemistry.

@Porcospino Maths was fun only when it was about numbers. When letters started to pop up, it started to be very annoying.

I really didn't like the typing lessons when I was student. I had to repeat the same boring exercises over and over. Now I type much faster than I did in the past.

I didn't learn much during the typing lessons. Today I type much faster than I did at school, but I mostly learned it on my own.

@Porcospino It looks like your typing lessons paid off. I also took typing lessons. I hated math and biology and gym.

The sound of the typewriter reminds of me the past I enjoy using a computer today, but I still remember how different things were when I was student.

That is not my favorite subject either. In hign school I chose the language line and I was able to avoid most of the physics and chemistry lessons that way.
